![]() Former Atari BuildingsBorregas Ave. Sunnyvale, CA 94086 In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Atari dominated both the arcade and home console market from it's central base of operations on Borregas Ave. in Sunnyvale, CA. At one point in time, Atari occupied a great number of the buildings which still stand on this street today, each with a different task in running the video game giant during it's heyday. The two most notable addresses on this street are 1265 and 1196, which were the flagship Atari Headquarters buildings during the peak of the company. The two buildings appeared in photographs across numerous books and media publications back in the day, and still look almost identical today. A visit to this location was the inspriation for this very project. While neat from the standpoint of a historian of video gaming, nothing existed to celebrate the contributions and historical impact of what came out of this Silicon Valley business park during the industries first big growth period. As of this writing, 1196 was partially occupied while 1265 sits empty. This street is among the first five locations featured in the Registry. ![]() Click here to return to the full Registry list |
