Below is the list of qualifications for a location to be considered for inclusion in this project. - Historical Impact to the Industry - The first qualification, of course, is that something took place at the location that had a profound impact on the history of the video gaming industry. Examples of the above would include locations where historically significant games were built and/or designed, test locations, sites of historically important video game events or tournaments, filming locations of films or television programming, buildings occupied by notable video game companies, arcades or gaming-related businesses, etc. The determination of a historical happening will be determined by the lasting impact of the event, and the event must have had a lasting effect on the industry. This means while the original test location of Donkey Kong, a game with lasting historical impact, would qualify while the original test location of Kid Niki: Radical Ninja would not. - 25 Year Mark - For a location to qualify for inclusion, the first historical happening of note must have taken place a minimum of 25 years to the day of the current date. For example: An arcade might have opened in 1978 that became nationally famous for a major gaming tournament in 1990. Even though that location's original opening would fall into the 25 year qualification, the location would not be eligible until the 25 year anniversary of the historical event. Locations with historical events that have taken place outside the 25-year qualification period may still have the more recent events noted, as it's inclusion would mean it's first historical happening allowed it's listing to take place. * Disclosure Note * - This section was amended from a 30-year minimum on August 24, 2011 to allow for more induction possibilities within confirmed research data. - Factual Data - For a location to be included, evidence of the historical contributions and impact must be researched and proven. For example: A bar in Chicago wants to claim it was the test location for the original Galaxian machine. A clearly historical contribution, but one that cannot be proven via available evidence and materials. Said location would have to wait while the matter was researched and until the information was verified through proper means. This may include locating and obtaining past press materials, public records and documents, and/or contacting and verifying with people directly involved in the historical event that have no connections or ties to the location itself. - Nominations - Nominations are allowed and encouraged, as long as the location nominated qualifies under the listed terms above. Individuals making nominations do not have to be officially involved with the location, past or present, but is required to reveal whatever ties with they may or may not have with the location when nominating. Nominations must include the name and location of the nominated site and any evidence of the historical event should be included when possible. The more information, the better the chances of the location being included within this registry. Those interested in making nominations can e-mail here and your name and provide contact information along with the reasons for the nomination. |
