At Cheers in Boston

Smelling the Roses

I made a huge mistake during my time in the wrestling business, an adventure that allowed me to travel as I never had before. Basically, we'd go into a city, work the event and leave, never taking the time to experience the sights and flavors of whatever city we were in.

I came to regret that when I got older and ever since I've taken the time to smell the roses, so to speak. To go visit those historical sites... or the filming locations of my favorite movies and TV shows. To visit the key restaurants and savor the local foods those regions are famous for.

And I refuse to miss the opportunity. I'm totally guilty of once skipping out of an event after 30 minutes so I could visit the original bar that inspired Cheers, one of my all-time favorite TV shows. I came back and everything, but not until after I'd taken the opportunity. Now every time I watch the show, I can say that I've been there and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

From Los Angeles to Chicago, from Nashville to Indianapolis... you name it and I've happily taken the opportunity. I highly recommend the same to everyone reading this. These kinds of opportunities don't always repeat themselves. It's a rule of mine and I strongly recommend it to everyone out there.

You appreciate the world around you more when you've experienced it in person. Don't hesitate to do the same.
